Hi KPN moderator and Forum users,

Hope all is well. This is Peigong. I have a Dutch number. And I try to call a Dutch number in China. However, I was told to cancel Call Barring setting in order to make the call. I have already found the way of deactivating Call Barring. However, I was asked to enter Call Barring password. I have not set any Call Barring password. And I tried to use my PIN code, 0000 and PUK-code. None of them is working unfortunately. Do you have any idea to deactivate Call Barring with a right password?

KPN Customer Service checked the SIM card and mentioned that all SIM card settings are fine. My mobile device is Huawei P30 lite which I bought in MediaMarkt Rotterdam. I have two SIM cards. After switching off the Chinese one, I got this issue with Dutch one.

Thank you for your consideration. Hope to hear your feedback.

Regards,
Peigong

Hello @Peigong . Welcome on the KPN forum.

When you want to call a Dutch number always use +316....
So countrycode 31 (Netherlands). It doesn't matter where on the globe the phone is.

And when yoú use a + it doesn't matter what the international dialing code is for the country where you are.
Hi @PeterG ,

Thanks for your reply. I dialed 0031 6 ...

The problem here is regarding Call Barring password.

Cheers
Peigong
I don't know why it should be blocked. But it ís China....

Hi Peigong, welcome! I've moved your conversation with PeterG in the other topic to this one for clarity

It seems that call barring is something that some mobile network providers do. The password you need is then dependent on which mobile network you're using. That'll be a Chinese one, so perhaps if you search online with the name of that provider the call barring password will be listed somewhere. Alternatively, are there any other networks in the area that you could try? Perhaps they do not have calls barred.
Hi @Erik_ ,

Hope all is well. Thanks for your feedback. The telecom partner of KPN in my region is China Unicom. As you suggested, I contacted China Unicom for call barring password. They told me that the default one is the last 6 digits of Chinese mobile number. In this case, however, the problem is with my Dutch phone number. Then this solution is not working. Can you please kindly escalate this issue to higher level support team?

Many thanks

Sorry to hear China Unicom couldn't be of more help. As far as I’m aware, this isn't something we do, and as such, can fix. However, I've asked some questions internally. As soon as I hear something, I'll get back to you.

In the mean time, please fill in your mobile number on your forum profile and reply here to let me know you've done so. So we can, if needed, check things on your account.

Edit: Something that just occured to me. You're using dual sim you said. Can you activate the Chinese Sim, and then try to use the last 6 digit code to deactivate call barring. Then reactivate the KPN Sim and try calling again.

Hi @Erik_ ,

Hope all is well. Appreciate for your feedback. I have filled in my forum profile. Please check again.

In the SIM card setting of my Chinese SIM, call barring is deactivated already. In my opinion, it does not make sense to deactivate it again. Thanks for the tip though.

After checking with your KPN colleague from Customer Service, I was told that my SIM card will be keeping active if I send a sms every 6 months. Can you please confirm this? If so, I will ignore the call barring issue because my purpose is to keep my KPN SIM card alive.

Thank you for your consideration. Good day

Best regards,

Peigong

Your card will indeed remain active as long as you send an sms or make a call at least every six months.

I have not yet gotten a reply on the questions I've asked internally. I'll send a reminder out, because I am curious to see if there's anything we can do.

It's been a while, but I have some answers to my questions. Although not an actual solution. We've had a specialist take a look at your profile and settings on our side and there's nothing out of the ordinary. We can't find anything that could cause this. The specialist also indicates that the type of notification you're getting is a device level setting. So you could perhaps try asking Huawei if is this is something that they are familiar with. But, in short, there's nothing we can do about it.

Just bought a new phone with KPN Huawei and now I'm not able to call to my family in Portugal. What's the password for call barring?

Hi Jorge, welcome to the forum We've looked into this for Peigong and this is not something that we have control over. I recommend asking the mobile network provider that you are on, or contacting Huawei.
